On Nov 8, 1995 I received the order for the 100th rec.boats cap. (This includes the two I bought for myself.)
The original five (or six?) yellow caps had the stitching running up and down in the burgee. After that all caps have had the stitching running from side to side (as of 24 Feb 95). If you meet someone with one of the original type, you have met a pioneer.
Some of the caps have been made with black lettering and some with white. No rhyme or reason, but all colors except yellow (so far) have been made with some of each color. I won't consider these as separate inventory items. If you ask, and I have a particular lettering color available, I will send it, but it really isn't a choice that I'm offering.
It's quite a sight to see the machine these caps are embroidered on. Six caps at a time, held in frames, all dancing in unison; six sewing heads buzzing away, each with its rack of spools of colored thread; the whole thing the size of a VW bus. They also have a smaller, single-station machine that would fit in the space of a refrigerator. The design is drawn up with a CAD-like program and then converted to exactly located and counted stitches. The stitch program is then run on the embroidery machines. These machines can do up to about a 12" x 12" design.
